Spring Must Haves

PLANTING THE SEED

As a kid I loved to lie on the grass and stare at clouds, trying to decipher shapes as they rolled by. When I came across RELAX from Greenform, I couldn’t help but smile at the whimsical charm of the 100 percent recycled fiber cement planter. Measuring more than 6 feet long in two planters, it can be filled with flowers or colorful stones but I like it best planted with lush grass.

CLASSIC AND CONTEMPORARY

Our favorite go-to for modern yet classic outdoor furniture is the 1966 collection by Richard Schultz for Knoll. The collection was actually designed by Schultz at the request of Florence Knoll, who, after retiring wanted outdoor furniture that could withstand the corrosive Florida air. As comfortable and well-proportioned as it is sleek, there’s no question why this adjustable chaise and the entire collection has been a hit for almost 50 years.

ONE FOR THE BIRDS

If you’re a fan of modern design, this exquisite birdfeeder is perfect for a contemporary garden. Referencing the Barcelona Pavilion, created in 1929 by the iconic architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Monique Engelund has designed a super cool and architecturally interesting birdfeeder. Made with durable acacia wood from sustainable European forests, the feeding table is located under the roof while the birdbath sits out in the open. What’s not to love? allmodern.com

RAISE YOUR GLASSES

I love picnics, “Shakespeare in the Park” and a good ol’ seaside clambake. I haven’t, however, always loved my options for outdoor drinkware. That all changed when I discovered Govino stemless glasses. Made from a BPA-free polymer, these shatterproof, reusable, recyclable glasses are as thin-rimmed as crystal and feature a thumb notch for easy handling. They’re so affordable I’ve taken to keeping an inventory on hand for hostess gifts.

STEPPING OUT IN STYLE

When Deb needed an outdoor rug for her home in Naples, Fla., we went searching for something a little more adventurous than seagrass and found just what we were looking for with Liora Manne’s LAMONTAGE rugs. Her beautifully creative floor art resembles wool felt but is made with 100 percent acrylic and polyester fibers specially coated to prevent mildew, odor and deterioration. Her online catalogue is extensive and she also does custom orders.
