The blizzard of January 2016 is raging around us, dumping more than two feet of snow on the almost deserted streets of New York City and bringing the entire city to a close.

Inside the Quin, a luxury boutique hotel in Midtown Manhattan, we’re safely – and very happily – cocooned in a sanctuary of calm and composure as if nothing whatsoever is happening outside.

A giant video art wall projects splashes of vivid color across the sleek yet intimate reception lobby; neatly pressed staff hover unobtrusively to attend to guests’ needs; pots of steaming coffee and hot chocolate await in an adjoining lounge.

Upstairs in our junior suite – one of the hotel’s 208 stylish rooms, suites and a new triplex penthouse – our generous sitting room, bedroom and streamlined marble-and-stone bath offer an even quieter and more comfortable place to relax.

The temptation is to snooze on our king-size Duxiana bed and Sferra Venetian linens, soak in the oversize tub with Fresh spa products or watch a movie on the widescreen LED HDTV and order room service.

Instead, we head down to The Wayfarer – the Quin’s contemporary spin on a classic American grille – and tuck into an excellent Saturday brunch while watching the near-record blizzard blanket the city with snow.

Perched on the corner of West 57th Street and Sixth Avenue, in the cultural heart of New York City, this welcoming and visually stimulating hotel takes the art  of luxury, comfort and service to a new level.

A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the Quin opened in late 2013 and quickly established itself as a fixture on the city’s art, foodie and social scene.

The hotel’s unique Quin Arts creative program, curated by DK Johnson of The Arts Fund, adds an eye-catching edge to the guest experience with constantly changing artworks and installations.

Just one block from Fifth Avenue, two blocks from Central Park and a stroll to Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Rockefeller Center, the Museum of Modern Art and other top cultural institutions, the Quin is surrounded by some of the city’s finest art, music and fashion.

But for the snow, we’d have been ideally placed to explore all the attractions New York City has to offer. But on this wild weekend,     in this amazing blizzard, we were in the perfect hotel in the perfect storm.
