Ward Village, a 60 acre master-planned condo community within Honolulu’s rapidly growing Kakaako neighborhood, is being developed by Howard Hughes Corporation. Once complete Ward Village will have approximately 20 condos surrounded by parks, wide sidewalks, groceries, outside cafes and more, to suit the Kakaako philosophy: live, work & play.
The transformation began March 2014 with the sales of Waiea, Anaha and, given very strong sales, Howard Hughes launched sales of Cylinder at Gateway Towers in May 2015.
These three properties have a lot riding on them with expectations they will raise the bar for luxury living in Hawaii to an unprecedented level. The strong sales were in itself, undeniably, the answer to any questions about the demand for contemporary ultra-luxury condos in Honolulu’s up-and-coming Kakaako.
The question is: Will Howard Hughes be able to live up to expectations of bringing the ultimate in luxury living to Honolulu?
Let’s review the three projects and include some graphical renderings to show just how spectacular these condos are expected to become.
Waiea
This new ultra-luxury condo is the centerpiece of the Ward Village master-plan with its curve shaped southeast facing side, without two identical pieces of glass, making it an architectural masterpiece, with an expected completion November 2016 and the time of publishing, glass is installed to about the 32nd floor.
The two Grand Penthouses, which take up the 35th and 36th floor respectively, are expected to become Hawaii’s ultimate luxury residences. Each will be nearly 10,000 square feet of interior living space with private terrace and pool.
The standard floor unit are spectacular too with the smallest being a 1,000 plus square foot one-bedroom unit up to a 2,700 square foot three-bedroom “A” stack, commanding unimaginable ocean, city and Diamond Head views. The units are using top of the line appliances from Miele in the kitchen and Dornbracht fixtures.
James Cheng, the architect, cleverly positioned the tower and appropriate window curves to enhance the ocean views of each and every unit—an incredibly innovative design.
Anaha
A new luxury condo that is a diagonal stone throw away from Waiea and another condo where the architect, Solomon Cordwell Buenz, brings an exceptional ultra-contemporary design with every four floors shifting either left or right. Anaha has an expected completion summer 2017 and as of writing the first few floors of glass has been installed.
The ultimate Grand Penthouse is close to 7,000 square feet inside with large rooftop terrace and a private pool. The standard floor units starts with one-bedroom from 735 square feet to about 2,450 square feet for the preferred three-bedroom “A” stack, boasting incredible ocean, city and Diamond Head views, despite being set back from ‘front row’, Ala Moana Blvd.
Though set back from Ala Moana Blvd, the lower heights of Ward Center allows every condo on that side perfect views of the park and the waves coming in to the land. Even those on the other side of the building can still enjoy a soothing gaze out at the ocean from the 7th floor pool any time you choose.
The architectural feature that is the talk of the town is the clear-bottomed pool that looks to the street below! With something as amazing as that, you’d be justified in wondering what the designers brought to the highest floors.
The Cylinder at Gateway Towers
This is a new ultra-luxury condo, immediately west of Waiea—as in less than 300 feet away—by world-renowned architect, Richard Meier, who has his name on many incredible projects, including the Getty Center in Los Angeles. The Cylinder at Gateway Towers is expected to be complete in 2019 and caters to the most elegant tastes with incredible touches and attention to details.
The ultimate Grand Penthouse is a duplex boasting 20-foot ceilings in the living / dining areas spanning across the 26th and 27th floors. The unit will have close to 4,500 square feet of interior living space and a 1,700-square foot private rooftop terrace with pool.
There are just six units on the standard floors with the smallest being a one-bedroom close to 1,000 square feet to about 2,400 square feet for the most incredible three-bedroom “A” stack unit boasting amazing harbor, ocean and Diamond head views. All units have six-feet wide windowpanes and no tinting is used, creating natural and incredible views. Instead, genius Richard Meier has installed a couple of feet of sunshade at the top and bottom of each window. Materials used are top of the line with Bulthaup kitchen, Gaggenau kitchen appliances and Dornbracht fixtures throughout.
Waiea, Anaha and Cylinder at Gateway Towers each have their own unique style and concept, all fitting the Ward Village concept of bringing new levels of luxury living to Hawaii. A new concept of luxury is truly being defined by Howard Hughes.
