Winter Trip to New York
Spend the holiday season in one of the most festive cities in the world
New York City is perhaps one of the most popular places to visit for a weekend of retail therapy and to experience everything that the big apple has to offer. In winter, the city is fully transformed into a magical winter wonderland, and you will be able to enjoy spending the holiday season in one of the more festive cities in the world.
The first activity you can enjoy for free is a tour of the holiday lights which sparkle all over the city. You’ll be guided on a walking tour of New York and taken around all of the most famous landmarks in the city. Stay at Edgewater Apartments and you will also be able to make the most of seeing the Rockefeller Christmas Tree, which is a huge centerpiece in the area
The Radio city Christmas spectacular is also in play through this season- and you’ll be able to enjoy watching the Rockettes performing their most famous hits amongst a variety of other performers.
Ice skating is another popular winter pastime in New York City. You'll be able to see plenty of pop-up ice rinks throughout November and December, an ideal place for a romantic date of family fun.
Just as most big cities do, New York holds a few different Christmas Markets which fill the streets with festive lights, smells, and plenty of gifts to buy for friends and family. If you really want to immerse yourself in the holiday spirit, Christmas markets are the best place to do it! Here are some of the markets:
- Grand Central Holiday Fair, November 13-December 24, 2017
- Union Square Holiday Market, November 16-December 24, 2017
- Columbus Circle Holiday Market, November 28-December 24, 2017
- Bryant Park’s Winter Village, October 28 to January 5, 2018
If you want to go and see a show whilst you are in the Big Apple, then going to watch the winter classic "The Nutcracker" is the perfect idea for you and your family. The city performs the show every year and it has become a tradition at Christmas time.
If you would rather spend the time outdoors during the winter period, a relaxing walk through the largest park in the city- central park- is a great idea to get some fresh air and enjoy a peaceful moment. You could also drop by the Friends café and take a tour of Central Perk--be sure to buy a t-shirt, too!
Times Square is most famously known for the spectacular New year’s countdown and celebration they hold at the end of each year, but just a week before that you will also be able to get in that party mood as you look forward to Christmas Day. It is a hive of movement and excitement all the way through December, and you’ll be able to enjoy some retail therapy followed by a visit to this famous location as you explore the city.
