Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, Golf Club & Spa—a Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond resort situated on over 200 lush acres in Carlsbad, California, San Diego’s iconic coastal community—recently announced plans for the start of a $50+ million resort-wide transformation. The expansive redesign will introduce reimagined guestrooms and suites, upgraded meetings and event spaces, new restaurant and bar concepts, as well as enhancements to the resort’s grand lobby entrance, renowned spa, fitness center, two pools, and championship Arnold Palmer-designed Aviara Golf Club.

WATG is designing the project, which began November 2019 and draws inspiration from the property’s coastal location and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, from its perch adjacent to the Batiquitos Lagoon. The hotel’s new design is intended to celebrate the surrounding area’s natural landscape—with rolling hills, vast ocean views, and 200 species of local plants and wildlife that call this special place home.

The hotel’s 327 spacious guestrooms and suites will be reimagined to evoke a refined home-away-from-home style and the serene setting and laidback lifestyle of Carlsbad. With calming elements of coastal-inspired decor and tranquil colors reflecting the sand and sea, guestrooms will also feature artwork that harkens to the resort’s natural surroundings. Guestrooms will receive a full redesign, featuring modern touches including hardwood flooring in entryways, sophisticated bathroom upgrades and new furnishings.

Touches of nature will also be woven throughout the resort’s multiple indoor and outdoor event spaces.  The resort’s exterior spaces will undergo a landscaping refresh, as well as the creation of an event lawn. An enhanced pool area will feature new luxury cabanas at the iconic adult pool and a redesigned interactive family pool experience featuring a water play area and waterslides for children of all ages to cultivate true moments of connection.

All restaurant and bar outlets will undergo a renovation and rebranding, including the addition of a covered exterior terrace for guests to take in the Southern California sunsets year-round. The new restaurant concepts will be announced Spring 2020 and will feature immersive culinary experiences, for which the Park Hyatt brand is known.

“The resort-wide updates offer a more contemporary California coastal design that celebrates our natural setting in a new way,” said Geoff Gray, Park Hyatt Aviara General Manager. “We are proud to evolve and grow this iconic resort while maintaining the same level of understated luxury and service at the highest standard that our guests have come to expect. This new design will set the stage for Park Hyatt Aviara as the premiere resort destination within Southern California.”

With its renovation, the resort will also introduce an updated Aviara Spa and fitness facilities, golf course, clubhouse, and restaurant. The exterior landscaping and additions to the Aviara Golf Club will further enhance the golf experience of the Arnold Palmer-designed golf course in its storied 28 years.

Park Hyatt Aviara’s property-wide renovation is expected to conclude in Fall 2020.
