Grand Isle Resort and Spa

Enjoy the laid back luxury of the Out Islands.

Some locals say the Exumas and the other out islands are the “real Bahamas.” Even the Bahamas Minister of Tourism and Aviation Hon. Dionisio D’Aguilar says in our recent influencer interview that “getting off the beaten path” gives visitors an authentic taste of the Bahamas. Lux travel insiders I know consistently rave about the unspoiled natural beauty and laid-back luxury in the Exumas, and the Grand Isle Resort & Spa that occupies a long and gorgeous stretch of Emerald Bay on Great Exuma could be one of the reasons why.

Everything at the resort: from the coastline hugging championship golf course designed by Greg Norman, to the soothing spa and even the fresh-caught fish served poolside in the Palapa Grill pays homage to the surreal natural beauty of the Out Islands. The swimming, snorkeling and of course, sunbathing is out of this world. And the West Indies-style architecture and sophisticated interior design of each of the resort’s 78 villas (ranging from 1-4 bedroom units) features custom furnishings, gourmet kitchens and private balconies or patios with sweeping views of the Exumas famous turquoise waters, and or the golf course and marina. Villas are available for rent as well as purchase as part of the resort’s ownership program.

There are programs for adventurous eco-travelers too. The resort has partnered with an ocean conservation group (Beneath the Waves) and leading marine biologist Dr. Austin Gallagher to offer guests a once-in-a-lifetime chance to tag sharks in the wild. For a donation of $500, guests get to join one of Dr. Gallagher’s excursions to search for, study and tag Tiger Sharks, Hammerhead Sharks, Nurse Sharks and Reef Sharks in the wild.
Sounds like paradise, right?
