Why: By way of history, the resort is known for its warm, yellow façade and stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean.  It originally opened in 1868 and has been home to generations of families and guests who have enjoyed the warm hospitality.  In 2004, when engineers confirmed that salvaging the building was not an option, a group of passionate summer residents sought to preserve the Ocean House under the leadership of Mr. Charles Royce.  They have been faithfully replicating the historic property and have salvaged some 5,000 artifacts.  More than 300 people were employed during the five-year multi-million dollar restoration. In addition to creating jobs in Rhode Island, the Ocean House project is committed to increasing local and state tourism.
