Luxury coastal destinations increasingly distinguish themselves not only through architecture and amenities but through the quality of the landscapes they inhabit. Along Brazil’s celebrated Ecological Route of Miracles, where coral reefs, mangrove forests, and pristine beaches define one of South America’s most remarkable shorelines, Italian design house Pininfarina has unveiled Manta Design by Pininfarina, a beachfront hospitality and residential development that embraces its natural surroundings as the foundation for every design decision.

Located in Porto de Pedras overlooking the Costa dos Corais Environmental Protection Area, home to Brazil’s second-largest coral reef system, the project represents Pininfarina’s first horizontal hospitality destination in the state of Alagoas. Developed in partnership with Cavalcante & Rolim, Manta offers a contemporary vision of luxury coastal living that places equal emphasis on architecture, wellness, and environmental stewardship.

Architecture Inspired by the Rhythm of the Ocean

Rather than imposing dramatic forms on the landscape, the architecture draws directly from the surrounding marine ecosystem. Coral reefs, filtered underwater light, ocean currents, and the graceful movement of manta rays informed the project’s softly curved buildings, layered rooflines, and flowing outdoor spaces that appear to move naturally across the beachfront site.

The name Manta reflects both the marine inspiration behind the design and the concept of shelter and comfort, reinforcing the development’s intimate relationship with the sea.

A Master Plan Designed Around Experiences

Instead of centering the resort around a single amenity complex, the master plan unfolds as a sequence of interconnected experiences. Tropical arrival gardens transition into intimate outdoor retreats, lively social gathering spaces, wellness environments, and beachfront destinations that maintain uninterrupted views of the Atlantic Ocean.

This carefully choreographed progression encourages residents and guests to experience the property gradually, allowing each landscape, garden, and architectural space to reveal itself as part of a larger journey.

Luxury Amenities Framed by Nature

At the center of the development, the Social Hub combines pools, water features, restaurants, landscaped terraces, and a sculptural mushroom-inspired bar that serves as the project’s architectural centerpiece. Nearby Eco-Scape Hubs offer jacuzzis, shaded lounges, and tranquil gardens designed for relaxation, while the beachfront Wellness Hub integrates spa facilities, fitness spaces, dining venues, and contemplative outdoor areas overlooking the sea.

Throughout the property, coral-inspired screening systems filter sunlight, improve privacy, and promote natural ventilation while creating dynamic patterns of light and shadow that change throughout the day. Warm timber, light concrete, expansive glazing, and abundant native vegetation further strengthen the connection between the architecture and the surrounding landscape.

Designing for Sustainability and Coastal Resilience

Environmental responsibility is woven throughout the development. Planned sustainability features include greywater reuse systems, infrastructure prepared for solar energy, passive cooling strategies, cross ventilation, locally sourced materials, and low-impact construction methods. Native planting and biophilic design principles support biodiversity while creating comfortable outdoor environments year-round.

“The greatest luxury today is not creating something that dominates nature, but something that allows people to experience it more deeply,” says Samuele Sordi, Chief Architectural Officer at Pininfarina of America.

Developer João Renato Cavalcante Rolim says that philosophy guided the project from the very beginning. “Manta is being developed on Patacho Beach, in one of the most pristine settings along the Coral Coast. From the very first sketch, our premise has been not to impose a development on this landscape, but to become part of it.”

The Future of Luxury Coastal Development

As affluent buyers continue seeking destinations that balance sophisticated design with authentic connections to nature, Manta reflects a broader evolution in luxury coastal living. Rather than relying on excess, the development demonstrates how architecture, landscape, and environmental stewardship can work together to create a destination where the surrounding coastline becomes the property’s greatest amenity.
