Kelly Drum captains his Fort Lauderdale real estate business to new levels of success. By Scott Kauffman

At a time when many of the high-end yachting and real estate markets are seemingly bobbing up and down like a docked boat, Kelly Drum continues to deliver nothing but sweet-sounding music in his swanky South Florida city, known for mega yachts and mega waterfront living. How else can one explain this past September for Drum, who owns Fort Lauderdale-based Drum Realty, the familyÂ’s flagship Lauderdale Marina, and numerous other marine and real estate interests?

For instance, on September 15, Drum closed on a $4.6 million Intracoastal Waterway property that features a grand 9,569-square-foot British Colonial estate home with 250 feet of water frontage in the exclusive Rio Vista neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale. Then, on that same day, Drum and the Yacht Auction Group (co-founded with JP King Auction Company) closed on a $2.27 million sale of the 126-foot motor yacht called Emerald Isle. Originally priced at $7 million, the luxurious Christensen yacht, which received a $2 million refit in 2009, was actually sold post-auction and had three offers total.

Another positive sign that the Fort Lauderdale market is truly on the mend was DrumÂ’s $7.64 million sale of the Bontona Point estate lot that featured 700 feet of dream water frontage and an 18,000-square-foot home that is being torn down.

All this success should come as no surprise, considering the Drum family has been ingrained in the fabric of Fort Lauderdale for decades. DrumÂ’s grandfather and one-time Fort Lauderdale mayor, Bob Cox, first arrived here in 1948, when he docked his 90-foot boat in Port Everglades, the only place that could hold a nine-foot draft boat. 954-931-3222 or 954-764-4242, drumrealty.com.
