Unlike most visitors who arrive at the Abaco Club after a short flight from Nassau, my visit started with a sporty speedboat ride from nearby Great Guana Cay. But no matter how you first make landfall on Great Abaco, the anticipation of the remote luxury waiting for you at the Abaco Club on Winding Bay is only enhanced by the taxi ride through a captivating and seemingly never-ending forest of pencil-thin pine trees from Marsh Harbour. And as I soon found out, the resort was even better than I anticipated.
In fact, the Abaco Club’s stunning natural beauty and world-class beach, #1-rated golf course in The Bahamas, and diverse residences ranging from charming, one-bedroom cabanas to palatial beach front estates are spectacular. But that’s just the beginning.
The water is warm and impossibly blue and the sugar-soft beach is ideal for unwinding and reconnecting with friends, family and fellow members. The club also boasts a state-of-the-art spa and fitness facility, tennis courts, gourmet dining in several resturants and all manner of watersports in addition to the world-famous saltwater flats fishing and deep-sea fishing that’s readily available at Little Harbour nearby. In fact, the newly completed Abaco Yacht Club will accommodate owners boats up to 50 feet, in addition to various rental and charter boats.
Meanwhile, the golf course that was designed by renowned golf course architects Donald Steel and Tom Mackenzie, to be a cut above a usual Caribbean holiday course. Members say “Bring your A-game—and your camera,” It fact, for the third year in a row, the Web.com Tour just staged its Bahamas Great Abaco Classic tournament where amatuers get a chance to play with the PGA players of tomorrow.
It’s no wonder visitors and guests soon become Abaco Club members and owners. Once I got a taste of the club’s special charms and all the activities that are available to owners and guests, I can’t wait to go back. for more information, visit theabacoclub.com
