Members of The Abaco Club are absorbed into island life from the moment they arrive, greeted by the staff’s warm, smiling faces and handed a damp, lemongrass-scented towel to cool off. A cold drink and fresh fruit await as they check the Member Board to find out who else is on property. For members, The Abaco Club is not just another vacation—it is a homecoming.

The Abaco Club, an exclusive Bahamian private club and 500-acre sanctuary on Great Abaco Island, delivers both breathtaking natural beauty and a soul-enriching sense of connection and community.

A $350 Million Transformation

An ongoing, comprehensive $350 million transformation of The Abaco Club represents one of the largest private club investments in the Caribbean. Developed, owned, and operated by Southworth, a family-owned leader in private clubs, the property is undergoing a ten-year investment plan that is expanding both its amenities and residential offerings.

“At The Abaco Club, our priority has always been a lifestyle defined by genuine belonging, memorable experiences and meaningful connection, which is why we continue to evolve the club over time, building on what members already love about being here,” says Tommy Southworth, president of Southworth.

The most immediate path to membership at the club is homeownership. Members also enjoy reciprocal privileges at all other Southworth properties, with full use of their facilities and amenities. Other membership and rental options are available.

New Neighborhoods: Treetops and The Ridge Estates

Construction of new neighborhoods is a major focus of the ongoing transformation. The Abaco Club nearly doubled its year-over-year real estate sales in 2025. The Treetops neighborhood offers 15 residences starting at $6.3 million. Built at one of the property’s highest elevations along the 15th fairway, the homes provide sweeping views of the Atlantic. Treetops residences are available in two five-bedroom floor plans—Buttonwood and Cocoplum—and range from 3,889 to 4,046 square feet. A future Spa and Wellness Retreat will be built adjacent to the neighborhood.

There are also options for members who want to construct a bespoke custom home. Four homesites, starting at $2.15 million, remain in The Ridge Estates neighborhood, which offers elevated views across the 18th fairway and Atlantic.

The Bay Club

Multigenerational connection and recreation are at the core of life at The Abaco Club. This philosophy is perhaps best exemplified by the new oceanfront Bay Club, which serves as the heart of this private paradise. Its amenity-filled clubhouse offers communal spaces including a cinema and game room anchored by a large LED video wall, an expansive first-floor lounge with comfortable indoor and outdoor seating areas and firepits, an adults-only Horizon Lounge with a custom bar, an outdoor cigar lounge, and a boutique.

The resort-style infinity pool serves as the focal point of The Bay Club and was designed to accommodate a variety of member experiences. It includes dedicated 25-meter lap lanes for fitness, a shallow sun shelf, an elevated hot tub, and a beachfront bar for socializing. Curved seating echoes the shape of the shoreline, while a connecting boardwalk creates a fluid transition between the pool, beach, and lower-level kids’ pool.

During the day, Flippers Beach Bar—think tiki hut meets sidewalk café—serves breakfast, lunch, and island cocktails. In the evening, The Veranda restaurant offers indoor and peaceful alfresco dining beneath the stars and accompanied by the sound of lapping waves.

Just a few steps down from the expansive pool and sun deck, members can sink their feet into powdery-soft white sand and relax on padded turquoise lounge chairs shaded by palapas, or dive into perfectly clear azure water and swim out to an anchored raft. On a walk along the two-mile white-sand beach, you might catch sight of a ray or sea turtle poking its head above the water. For those interested in water sports, beachfront staff are ready to assist with snorkeling, kayaking, kite surfing, Hobie Cats, water bikes, canoes, paddleboards, and e-Foils.

Golf, Racquets, and Recreation

With stunning ocean views and professional golfer Darren Clarke as its Club Ambassador, The Abaco Club’s tropical links-style golf course ranks among the top courses in the Bahamas. Rolling fairways and sloped greens are dotted with white-sand pot bunkers. There is also an expansive practice facility with a double-sided driving range, a dedicated short-game area with three bunkered target greens, and a practice green for chipping and putting. Stand outside the Golf and Gift Shop at dusk, and you’ll hear the famous Abaco parrots before you see them.

Completed in late 2025, The Stables is a new racquet facility featuring four tennis courts, four padel courts, a racquet pro shop, a three-acre park, and a 50,000-square-foot pond with a fishing dock. The new complex joins The Abaco Club’s existing hard-court tennis courts, padel courts, and lighted pickleball courts. At Wake Field, a whiffle ball, kickball, and all-turf sports field, the younger set can often be found hitting whiffle balls with club staff.

Two magnificent spots offer opportunities to practice yoga with club instructors. The Perch, a wooden yoga platform with a built-in cooler, provides a beachside class accompanied by the sound of ocean waves. Yoga on the Day Dock may even include a glimpse of sea turtles during class.

Sunset at the Cliff House

At the end of the day, members can enjoy cocktails and dinner while watching the sunset over Winding Bay from the recently renovated Cliff House, an octagonal fine-dining restaurant, or the more casual Tip-Top Sunset Deck, with its infinity pool and expansive patio with firepits.

“It’s been a joy to see the new spaces bring fresh energy and new ways for families and friends to spend time together—creating experiences they’ll return to and remember for years to come,” says Southworth.
